Designing for the Sophisticated Home Buyer

I’m so excited that this week we can finally share an inside look at the spaces we designed for the House Beautiful Whole Home showcase! Part of the challenge of a showcase home, is that we are in fact designing without a specific client in mind! The master closets are meant to appeal to the lifestyles and sensibilities of the modern home buyer, bearing in mind that the spaces can’t be too unique, gendered, or stylistic. Today I’m sharing a few of my favorite features in the closets that are sure to turn the heads of any potential buyer!

LG Styler

Closet tech is a promising way to appeal to any potential buyers! The LG styler is an eye-catching gadget that makes steaming and ironing seem a thing of the past. The freestanding unit features a modern mirror face, and is completely automated to steam and refresh your clothes at the touch of a button!

Seura Mirror TV

I like for a closet to be a space for lounging, but sometimes a TV can take up valuable wall space or becomes an eye sore in the design. Enter the Seura mirror — a functional decorative mirror, concealing a TV behind the glass that makes it easy to catch up on news, weather, or your favorite shows while getting ready, and disappearing completely when not in use.

Stone Accents

Choice of material can really set the tone for the style of a closet! However, gone are the days of the stereotypical white closet. Clients today expect something that feels new, but remains neutral. In the closets for the showcase house, I opted to contrast against the natural wood finishes with a couple of different species of stone! This way, the two closets remain related, but each with its own personality.

Workspace

Closets today have to function as more than just a place for storing clothes — offering flexible solutions for a busy lifestyle! In both dressing rooms, I allow space for a flexible workspace / dressing table / vanity, so regardless of the potential home buyer, their professional needs will be met!

3-Way Mirror

Clients in the luxury home market expect their closets to emulate the experience of a high end boutique, accommodating custom fittings, styling, and more. A 3-way mirror is a staple part of that experience, and allows for concealed storage behind, so no bit of space goes to waste!
