END OF SUMMER STORAGE TIPS

Fall is fast approaching, and a change of season means for many of us it’s time to cycle out pieces in our wardrobe! One of the simplest things you can do to free up space in your closet is to cycle things out seasonally, so you have easier access to the pieces you’re wearing regularly. Today, I’m sharing a few tricks we like to employ to make this seasonal transition easier in the closet!

UPPER STORAGE

We always design to have the closet extend all the way to the ceiling. No matter the size of your closet, we never want wasted space, and this just results in a more finished, custom look! Often, clients opt to have doors on only the upper portion of the closet for storing lesser used items they don’t need to see or access. This is a great place to put away clothes and accessories for the season so they are protected, but still readily available.

STORAGE BOXES

If you’re someone who prefers to keep upper shelves open, without the look of solid doors, then storage boxes are a great solution to add seasonal storage. You can find high end options in suede, leather, or wood that will keep delicate pieces protected and out of sight until summer rolls back around!

MIX OF SOLID AND GLASS DOORS

If you have the luxury of space in your closet, and can have everything hanging year round, a mix of solid and glass doors is a great way to cycle through what you’re wearing each season. This way, you can always have the items you’re wearing visible behind glass, while the out of season pieces are tucked behind doors and never far away.

GARMENT BAGS

Garment bags area also a great tool for protecting your pieces when you aren’t wearing them. Especially for more delicate knits or embellished formal pieces, employing garment bags for seasonal storage will prevent unwanted snags, dust, and pests until you’re ready to wear them again.

SANDAL STORAGE

Finally, finding a way to store shoes out of season is a great way to free up space to keep your shelves looking tidy! I like to incorporate partitioned pull-out drawers for flats, sneakers, and sandals, this way you maximize your space, and don’t have to waste precious real estate on your shelves for these when you aren’t wearing them in colder months.
