CLOSET LIGHTING

Good lighting is important in any space, but it’s especially critical in the closet! You need a good balance of functional and decorative lighting, without harsh florescent tones! You want to be able to tell the difference between black and navy, so you don’t walk out looking like you got ready in the dark. In order to wear everything in your closet, you have to know what you have, which means being able to see it all when you’re getting ready! Today, I’m offering up a few ways we like to incorporate both functional and decorative lighting in our clients’ dressing spaces.

SHELF LIGHTING

Wherever possible, we like to incorporate functional lighting in the millwork! LEDs angled to illuminate your clothing and accessories will instantly improve the experience of your closet, and make it feel infinitely more custom. If you have items to store behind doors, I like to incorporate magnetic switches so that the lights come on automatically when doors are opened!

LIGHTED RODS

LED hanging rods are another great upgrade for a new or existing closet! Not only do they give much needed lighting for seeing your clothes, but it adds a cool, modern design detail to the space giving a more boutique ambiance to your closet. Battery operated versions are also available for elevating an existing closet where lighting is maybe lacking!

LED BACKLIGHTING

If you’re looking for lighting that will have a major impact on the look and feel of your space, LED back panels are great for giving a closet serious “wow” factor! We like to incorporate these behind handbags, shoes, or other accessory displays. Not only do they make you feel like you’re shopping in the closet, but they will wash the space with lots of warm, ambient lighting!

DECORATIVE LIGHTING

In addition to all the incorporated millwork lighting, we often like to source decorative fixtures like chandeliers and sconces for closets, to really elevate the space! This is a great opportunity to play with materials and metals, and choose a fixture that will set the tone for the style of the closet.

BACKLIT STONE

Finally, if you’re in search for a light source that packs a serious style punch, backlit stone gives the ultimate ambiance and can really become a focal point for the design. This is great for a waterfall island, wall panels, or backsplashes in the closet!
