CLEVER CLOSET MIRRORS

A functional mirror is a must-have for any walk-in closet! Not only do mirrors help to visually enlarge and brighten your space, they’re a critical part of the getting-ready process. For many clients, finding valuable wall space they can freely sacrifice for a mirror is a difficult task, as closet real estate is often at a premium! Today, I want to share a few of my favorite custom tricks for incorporating mirrors in my clients’ closets, without sacrificing storage space.

MIRROR BACKPANEL

One playful trick of the eye to make a closet feel more expansive is to incorporate mirrors in the back of your cabinets — specifically, in areas with shelving or open bureaus! This way, you don’t have clothes in front of the mirror, and can sneak a quick peek as you’re getting ready. Ultimately, this will make the closet feel brighter, bigger, and more custom.

PULL-OUT MIRROR

If you’re looking to add a full-length mirror to your closet, but don’t want to give up a full wall or cover your clothes with doors, a pull-out mirror is a perfect solution! These can be integrated within the millwork, or installed after the fact inside a long hanging cabinet. This is perfect for pulling out to put together a full outfit (or a selfie), and then tucks away out of sight when not in use!

3-WAY MIRROR DOORS

Mirrored doors are a great idea if you don’t mind storing your clothes out of sight! The added functionality of creating a 3-way mirror can really elevate the process of getting ready, tailoring, or trying on new pieces, while still allowing for lots of storage behind, so you aren’t giving up any valuable closet space!

POP-UP MIRROR

Pop-up mirrors are another fun way to add functionality for getting ready in the closet! I have lots of clients requesting these, to add the flexibility of a vanity space to a desk, bureau, or closet island. These can be hinged to flip up and reveal storage below, or motorized on a lift to rise out of the countertop!

MIRRORED STAGING WALLS

Finally, many of my clients are looking for somewhere to stage new and incoming pieces, or play around with favorite items when packing for a trip. Since carving out this staging space is already a luxury, and often requires giving up a little storage space, I like to pair this with a mirrored wall, so that you’re getting a little more functionality from this area, and you always have a mirror nearby when you’re trying on these new pieces or creating an outfit!
