VANITIES / WORKSPACES
If you’re limited on space in your master suite, you want your wall wardrobe to offer up as many functions as possible! If you’re dedicating an entire wall of your room to custom millwork, it’s important that it can serve your lifestyle beyond just storing clothes! I like to incorporate a vanity or workstation whenever possible. This can get concealed behind doors, fold away to save space, or become a central design element of the room to help break up an imposing wall of cabinetry.
MINI BARS
Nothing says luxury hotel staycation like a having a minibar in the room! I love getting creative with concealing these in closets, and you can do the same in a simple reach-in wardrobe! Have fun with color and materials to make this a “wow” moment in the room! You can incorporate everything from barware to wine storage, fridges and sinks!
DISPLAYS / DECOR
Since a wall wardrobe is often visible from your living / sleeping space, I think it’s important that it serve some decorative purpose for the design of the room as well! Break up the cabinetry with open displays — you can stage books, decor or even accessories from your closet! This just serves to make the space more inviting, and makes the wardrobe feel more intentional.
TVs
People have mixed opinions on TVs in the bedroom! I for one, always love to incorporate one, and a wall wardrobe is a great place. Whether you want to conceal the TV completely, or simply incorporate it cleanly into the design, the wardrobe is a great place to hide wires and AV equipment without interrupting the rest of the room!
DESIGN DETAILS
There are so many clever techniques to add functionality to a wall wardrobe! Mirrors can slide or get incorporated inside the doors. You can carve out space for luggage, packing, ironing, and steaming. And, if you really want the wardrobe to disappear, you can design as such, so a paneled wall can pull-out to reveal hidden storage behind!
