LA CLOSET DESIGN

SERVING UP STYLE

Often we hear that in the world of food, presentation is everything! The same can be said for closets, and I find it exciting to think outside the box about what defines a closet, and the many things they can store! While we don’t do pantries, this seems like the perfect intersection of food and fashion to explore ways to improve and merchandise to elevate an overlooked space. Today, I want to offer up some inspo from a closet perspective on custom upgrades that could really take the presentation in a pantry up a notch!

LIGHTING

Much like in the world of luxury closets, good lighting and lots of it in a pantry is essential! You have to be able to prep, and ultimately know what items you have in your stockpile! Shelf lighting throughout is a great way to start, but I would take it a step further to encourage a decorative fixture if you have the luxury of a large enough pantry! This will make the room feel more inviting, and like an extension of your kitchen.

MERCHANDISING

Another trick any true closet lover can tell you is that merchandising is a must! Everyone enjoys that feeling of shopping in their closets, and I believe the same should be true for other storage spaces in the home. Thoughtful arrangement of dishes, cutlery, and food items will instantly elevate the space.

WINE STORAGE

In-home wine cellars have come a long way, and pantries could learn a thing or two! Carving out a wine station in the pantry is a great way to bring out your inner entertainer, and can provide a functional focal point to an otherwise overlooked space! Much like in the closet, this will add a sense of occasion to the pantry!

CUSTOM INSERTS

Custom drawer inserts are critical for keeping things organized, and this couldn’t be truer for the kitchen. I like the idea of creating a dedicated spot for cutlery, china, and any other prep/host items in the pantry! This way, when you’re amid a chaotic party or family gathering, you can be sure to find exactly what you’re looking for!

DESIGN DETAILS

From a designer’s perspective, there is so much room for improvement when it comes to creating thoughtful and beautiful food prep spaces! Consider functional details like custom pull-out shelves, integrated ladders, and pocketing doors to make meal time easier and considerably more stylish!
