SHELFIE STYLING
We all know the feeling — you’ve styled your home with all your favorite decor and accessories, step back and admire your masterpiece… but after days turn to weeks of seeing the same styling around your home, it starts to feel a little stale! This is one of the inevitable side effects of being a design nerd; you are constantly looking for ways to freshen up your space, ideally with minimal investment.
I’m a firm believer that there are a million ways to style a shelf, and the impact this has on a room can’t be overstated! Whether it’s your bedside table, your living room built-ins, or even your closet, you can constantly bring new life to these areas with a little creativity. When styling our clients’ closets, we like to consider the shelf vignettes we create to carefully inject a little personality! While yes, function is the first priority in this space, there is always a little room for play, whether it’s stacking books to give your accessories a little more height, or layering shoes and bags for a more eye-catching color scheme.
The shelf styling in your home is the perfect place to start when you want to liven up your home and make things feel new again! A shelf can tell a lot about a person (hence the term, “shelfie”). Think of the styling in your home and closet as a way to introduce your personality and your interests. What unusual items or personal pieces can you incorporate that will instantly tell a story?!
Consider mixing playful colors and accessories with more functional storage! For example, styling your handbags on a shelf alongside a series of fashion books (like CLOSET BIBLE) or a vase of fresh flowers. Or consider turning a pair of shoes sideways on your shelf for a more graphic impact!
Storage boxes, baskets, and vanity trays are also all great items to incorporate on closet shelves — these can be both beautiful and a life-saving storage gain in a small space! We offer several in our online boutique depending on your style. Consider keeping boxes from some of your favorite designers / investment pieces and using these as additional storage as well. These can be great for styling in a closet!
