WE'VE GOT YOU COVERED

This week, as we’re seeing so many changes taking place around us, one thing is surely here to stay for the time being — face coverings. These are quickly becoming a staple in our daily lives and wardrobes, at least for the foreseeable near future! We’re seeing so many new versions and playful takes on the practical accessory, and wanted to share a few of the more fashion-forward alternatives on the market. Whether you’re building a collections of cloth face masks, or swapping out silk scarves daily, everyone is looking for ways to stay healthy without sacrificing style. With this new wardrobe staple comes a new demand for closet space — I’m also going to break down a few of our favorite ways to carve out space for your face masks in your closet!

FASHIONABLE FACE COVERINGS

THE HAPPY MASK STORE

Most importantly right now, we all need a little positivity! This playfully poignant face-mask maker is taking the simple cloth face mask as a means of self-expression, which we love. We’ve all been there in recent weeks - smiling at a passerby or store clerk, only to realize no one can read your expression… the Smiley mask is a brilliant way to flash a smile even when your face is covered, plus it’s a black-owned business!

S. DENTON COLLECTION

If you’re looking to use your face mask as a fashionable statement, you’ll love the custom sequined collection available here. Another black-owned business, the S. Denton Collection features several flashy colors that make the face mask a fun accessory, whether it’s paired with an embellished jacket or a simple set of sweats!

JONATHAN SIMKHAI

While we’re seeing many new makers spring up to fill the need for face masks amid the global pandemic, we’re also seeing some of our favorite household-name designers switch gears and step up to the plate. Jonathan Simkhai is known for his timeless shapes and masterful use of fabric — it’s no surprise that his simple take on the face mask is a perfect fit for any look. He’s offering a nude-palette range of colors crafted of high-quality fabric. These masks are designed to disappear, quietly complementing any outfit!

JANESSA LEONE

You might already know Janessa Leoné from her stylish hats and accessories! Janessa is an LA-based designer with a very modern, minimal aesthetic. Her signature west-coast cool is now translated into a line of suede and fabric face coverings. Her simple tie covering features a built-in mask on the interior, as does the larger bandana-scarf version. It’s a more functional take on the look of a simple tied scarf around the face!

HERMES

Many of us have also gotten creative with our existing scarves and accessories, realizing they make for a fashionable face mask alternative! One of the most versatile is the silk scarf. Many designers are known for these, perhaps none better than Hermes. Available in endless styles, colors, and sizes, you can even opt for a vintage version that you can be sure no one else will be sporting. Hermes has long touted the versatility of their scarves, and the many ways they can be tied around the neck, hair, or handbag handles, however it seems the face covering is one more practical application to add to that list!

CLEVER WAYS TO STORE

DRAWER PARTITIONS

Depending on the size of your face covering collection, a drawer seems like an ideal spot for storage! It’s a great place to keep your masks organized and dust-free. We love to outfit all our closet drawers with custom inserts, and luckily, the compartment needed for underwear items are the perfect size to swap out an area for face masks! This way, even if you decide to dedicate a full drawer to your masks for now, you can always convert these back to functional storage for your other items later.

WALL HOOKS

Wall hooks are another great accessory for any closet. They’re extremely versatile, and make the perfect place to stage looks for packing and more. You can find so many fun variations that complement the look of your closet, while keeping your face masks close at hand and easily accessible when you’re getting pulling together an outfit.

PULL-OUT CABINETS

If you opt to build out your scarf collection, rather than investing in a mask for each day of the week, you’ll definitely want room to grow! A pull-out cabinet is a great way to maximize space for your collection, without eating up valuable closet real estate. It’s also nice because it allows you to build a colorful collection, without displaying them all out in the open, if you’re trying to maintain a more merchandised look.
