LOVE YOUR LOUNGEWEAR
With the ever-growing selection of athleisure wear options, and all that 2020 has thrown our way, everyone is spending a little more time in their sweats and a little less in their business casual pieces. For this reason, many clients are opting to prioritize storage space for their comfy everyday sweats and archive their lesser worn formal items! Whether you’re looking to find functional solutions for cozy hoodies and lounge pants, or want to upgrade your legging and sneaker game, we can all take a few of these design cues into the closet.
We’ve long promoted creating a designated workout section in the closet, where you can pair your leggings, sports bras, sweatbands, and sneakers! A proper workout wardrobe can easily accommodate your cozy new collection of sweatsuits. This is an ideal place to hang hoodies and sweatshirts above, with leggings or sweatpants below! We like to incorporate pull-out pant racks for leggings, and this could be a perfect spot to keep lounge pants tidy, too.
If you’d prefer not to see your sweats in the closet, but still need them organized and accessible, consider partitioning a few drawers to fold and file them in neatly! You’ll want to choose a few deeper drawers, where you can either roll or file your sweats upright in the drawer. Never fold and stack your clothes in a drawer, as this will only lead to a disastrous mess when you start digging for the one at the bottom of the drawer. No one wants to refold every piece on a regular basis! The clothing filer is a great secret weapon to have on hand if you choose to store in a drawer!
Another option, taking a cue from retail, is to perfect the art of folding! Consider keeping your loungewear on open shelves in tidy stacks of 3-4. Don’t go too high, as this will make it difficult to pull the piece you want to wear, but having them all out and visible on shelves can make choosing the perfect pair a breeze. To keep a sense of order, stack by color and thickness! Consider some shelf dividers to help keep everything organized on an open shelf.
If you have the space, hanging your sweats in the closet can also look great! It’s all about merchandising these pieces just as you would any nicer items in your wardrobe! Make sure all your hangers match — this will instantly create a more elevated look. Then, order by color, style, and weight! This way, you’ll achieve a uniform look, and still be able to easily pair the perfect sweatsuit every time.
Finally, no loungewear look is complete without a collection of comfy sneakers and slides! While there may not be many places to go, you’ll want to slip on a cute sneaker or furry sandal for the occasional coffee run. If you have space to rearrange, move heels and booties to higher shelves, so the sneakers can stay accessible! We also love the look of a satisfying sneaker rainbow. If your shoe storage is already overflowing, consider donating or boxing up a few of the more formal shoes you won’t be wearing in the near future, for the sake of convenience. If you have space below your hanging pieces, for example a bottom row of folded sweatpants, this can also be a great spot to store sneakers directly below!
