FALL COLORS IN THE CLOSET

As much of the country starts to see tree leaves change from green to orange, red and brown, it makes me pause and reflect on the beauty of this time of year. Though we don’t get to experience changing leaves much in Southern California, my inner science nerd is amazed by the fleeting process. It’s quite the natural phenomenon!

The season definitely has me thinking about the ways these rich colors can be brought into the home. Earlier this month I shared with Elle Decor my favorite red color pairing (hint: it’s a combo of burgundy, brown and white). But beyond red, orange and brown hues are easy shades to bring into your space, and particularly closets. Here are a few ideas to fall-ify your interiors:

ORANGE

When I think about incorporating orange into a home, my mind goes straight to Hermès; but the truth is there are so many great shades of orange in the design category these days. Of course, the Hermès Avalon Throw is a timeless investment, but a valet tray or a terracotta planter are also great accessories to warm your space.

RED

Red can be considered rather serious, but there are plenty of ways to play with the fiery, bold, sexy shade in your space. A red pendant light might seem unexpected, but it can create a really seductive glow in a closet. Alternatively, have some fun with a whimsical magazine rack or bring in seating with a boho-chic pouf!

BROWN

Brown can get a bad wrap, but it’s actually a really versatile hue. Outside of wood cabinetry, shades of brown work well on bigger items like rugs, especially when other colors are present to contrast with the dark. A leather wallpaper offers a cool and contemporary method for introducing brown into a space (love a good saddle color!). Or, try a natural basket with brown handles, which can work in just about any space and with any aesthetic.
