AWARD-WINNING CLOSETS

And the award for best on-screen closet goes to…

The upcoming Academy Awards have me thinking about (what else?)...closets!  There have been some seriously covetable on-screen closets over the years.   And, while the movies may not have won awards, the closets in them are certainly award-worthy. Here are some of favorite big (and small) screen closets.

50 Shades of Grey  -- As if Christian isn’t perfect enough, his closet is quite the eye candy. The masculine space features rich wood, backlighting and an OCD level of organization.

Big Little Lies -- Celeste certainly didn’t have the perfect family life, but her closet made me swoon. With the skylight and island as the centerpiece, the perimeter showcased her luxe neutral staples.

Clueless -- Cher was way ahead of her time with her rotating closet and state-of-the-art computer program that catalogued her wardrobe and generated her daily outfits.  Even 20+ years later, the thought of an electronic, movable closet is revolutionary.

Scream Queens -- There was plenty of rich girl rivalry among these sorority sisters, but Chanel #1's dreamy 2-story closet topped them all. The Kappa closet had a dramatic staircase, boutique glass displays, an enviable shoe wall and built-in vanity.

Kingsman -- If James Bond stayed in one place long enough, I’d imagine he’d have a closet like the one in Kingsman. The well-outfitted spy closet conceals all types of gadgets and weaponry, and has all the fun tech to boot!

Sex and the City -- Carrie once said: "I like my money where I can see it...hanging in my closet." And, while her townhouse closet was packed with plenty of designer duds, it was her closet in Sex and the City 2 that was totally jaw-dropping.  The massive (even by non-New York standards) walk-in closet she shared with Big was tricked out with chic cabinets, endless storage space, hanging rods, custom lighting, and a custom bench upholstered in an oyster linen (obviously, so she can sit to try on all of her Manolos).

The Devil Wears Prada -- We’ve all wondered what the editorial closets are like at magazines like Vouge and Elle, but seeing the closet at Runway might be the closest we get. And, it’s quite spectacular with shoes from floor to ceiling and designer pieces lining the walls.  No wonder Andy’s wardrobe went from drab to fab!

The Great Gatsby -- I love a two-story closet and, apparently, so does Gatsby. Connected to his bedroom by a spiral staircase, his Art Deco closet is a vertical extension of his vast bedroom. The beautiful hardwood panelled walls and box shelves are perfect for holding his well tailored suits and fancy accessories.
