PRINTS CHARMING
This season’s prints are giving clothes, accessories and home products a punchy pop!
Now that spring is in full bloom, I’m getting in the spirit and thinking about trends worth investing in. One of the season’s biggest statements that has me swooning is prints and patterns. The spring runways were punctuated by bold prints -- from apropos floral to unexpected gingham. Lucky for us, the versatile trend lends itself to a multitude of ways we can bring it into our lives, including the home.
Here, I’m sharing the three most prolific pattern and print motifs of the season, and items that effortlessly take the trend from the runway to the home.
Stripes
Rosie Assoulin, Burberry, Proenza Schouler and Red Valentino were a few of the designers who showcased stripes in their spring collections. From classic to modern, wide to narrow, black and white to brightly colored, stripes are making a big statement. And, they’re certainly one of the easiest prints to bring it into the home. Whether you choose a wallpaper or a rug, there’s little risk and a big design reward for giving this pattern some play time.
Checks
The timeless menswear check pattern is stepping into the spotlight this spring, with designers embracing the conventional look and giving it twists, most notably with color blocking and dainty gingham. Versace, Louis Vuitton, Altuzarra and Banana Republic all embraced various forms of the check print in their spring collections. Bring the pattern into the home with items like pillows and textiles. Now, your move.
Florals
Spring fashion wouldn’t be what it is without the perennial floral print. Brands like Michael Kors, Jason Wu, Miu Miu and Tory Burch planted colorful floral prints throughout their collections. Whether retro, oversized or sculpted, floral prints prevail. Floral and greenery motifs are a fun and cheerful way to brighten a space, especially if you’re not a green thumb. Try a martinique accent or a vase of fresh palm fronds.
