A FEAST FOR THE EYES
THESE TRENDS SHOULDN'T STAY IN THE KITCHEN!
With Thanksgiving right around the corner, and the season of holiday gatherings officially upon us, we are all going to be spending a lot more time in the kitchen (or if you're like me and don't cook, our favorite restaurants)! As closets become an ever present design consideration in the home, I decided to look at some of the most popular kitchen design trends I'm seeing this year, and how they are starting to creep into other areas of the home - closets included!
1. LUXURY APPLIANCES
Sure, every kitchen needs the essentials - but in today's design world, residential kitchens are being packed with all the extras! From warming drawers to champagne fridges, espresso machines and wine dispensers, all these details go to show that people are splurging to have all the high end creature comforts in their own homes. Closets are no exception - often with fridges, mini bars, or coffee stations, dressing room design is slowly catching the perks of these modern conveniences. Goal for 2018: a closet warming drawer - for towels, linens, slippers, and robes!
2. HEAVY METAL
Whether it's with a commercial grade range and hood, or a bold sculptural pendant, kitchen and restaurant designers are decking out these spaces with metallic accents. Copper is king in the kitchen, and I'm seeing it move into the closet! Whether through playful hardware or a low-hanging light fixture, clients are loving the boutique experience these details bring.
3. GREY IS THE NEW WHITE
While white has long been the go-to shade for cabinets and closets, grey has made its mark on 2017! It goes with everything, and brings a modern edge. Contrasting countertops and polished accents pop against a neutral palette, and scream stylish sophistication. Dress it up or down, monochrome or contrast, masculine or feminine, but grey is here to stay.
4. STATEMENT FLOORING
Designers are always looking for ways to introduce pattern, and home-owners are braver now than ever. Gone are the days of the geometric curtain and patterned pillow! For the first time in decades, designers are dreaming of ways to walk all over their designs. Whether its an art deco herringbone or a fabulous floral, this trend is taking over restaurants and kitchens everywhere! Closets, too, are benefitting from this playful use of pattern, either with the flooring material itself, or more frequently with a soft statement rug.
5. OPEN STORAGE
Whether it's a wall of hanging accessories or modern floating shelves, many clients are opting to streamline and simplify their storage needs! Closets and kitchens are incorporating all kinds of new open storage solutions, meaning everything is on full display, and instantly accessible. This comes as more home-owners are moving toward the minimal, and looking for carefully curated spaces where they can showcase their favorite finds!
